Second annual District Improv Festival features top acts from D.C. and across the country
Called “the premier improv duo working today” by The New York Times, TJ and Dave will headline the second annual District Improv Festival, held September 24-28 at Source. The festival will also showcase 30 longform improv troupes from around the country, including ten of the top acts in the D.C. area. The festival is sponsored by The District Improv Company, in alliance with Washington Improv Theater.
The festival will feature some of the most exciting acts in longform improv. The festival will feature 30 jury-selected longform improv troupes from Baltimore, Chapel Hill, Connecticut, Austin, Philadelphia, New York, and D.C. This includes:
a return performance by Philadelphia’s The Amie & Kristen Show/The Kristen & Amie Show, who gave a crowd-favorite performance at the first District Improv Festival.
nationally known musical improv ensemble Broadway’s Next Hit Musical.
ukulele-wielding Austin duo Squirrel Buddies.
ten of the top improv acts from the District including Washington Improv Theater musical ensemble iMusical, Thunderball (featuring D.C. native Paul Laudiero, author of the prominent blog and the new book Sh*t Rough Drafts), and veteran D.C. duo ShawnMikael(s).
The District Improv Festival is the first national festival in Washington, D.C. dedicated to promoting longform improv. The festival is the byproduct of the robust longform improv scene emerging in Washington, D.C. Last year’s inaugural festival included acts from across North America. No less than five shows were performed to standing room-only crowds including a show featuring Magnet Theater (NYC) founder Armando Diaz, namesake of the famous Armando improv format.
“We were astounded by the success of the first festival,” said Dan Miller, District Improv Board Member and external relations director for Washington Improv Theater. “Our crowds roared with laughter. Not only did we shine a light on some of D.C.’s top talent, we welcomed great improvisers from all over the country to our city and helped establish the District as a top improv city.”
All-access festival passes can be purchased for $40 and tickets to individual shows can be purchased for $10-15. Tickets for TJ and Dave are sold separately. The line-up for the festival is:

Founded in 2012, District Improv Company is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
