Producer Spotlight: Greg Triggs on a Travel Hack to Ease Life on the Road
[Editor's Note: Once a month we have a producer or artistic director take you behind the curtain, into the rehearsal process, backstage, or on the road to illuminate more the of Broadway's Next Hit Musical process. This month it's co-producer and emcee Greg Triggs]
I love the travel Broadway's Next Hit Musical offers, but sometimes it's hard. I wish I had a clone with whom I shared a memory bank so one of us could be at home with the people we love and one could be out having fun shooting his mouth off in front of audiences around the country.
So much for wishes. That ain't going to happen anytime soon, so I have to make my choices all by myself, without my genetic doppelgänger.
Small Life Hacks
I find small life hacks - leaving the occasional note tucked away at home, getting flowers delivered by a friend with keys to our apartment and postcards. Mostly I love sending mail from the road to the people I love.
Now not all my intentions are altruistic. I can use the US Postal System for my own subversive devices. I'll send a postcard from the Herman Melville museum to a homophobic uncle or a Pope postcard (popescard?) to an agnostic friend, but mostly my postcards are sent with a kind heart.
My brother Ray loves bridges so his cards always have water images. My sister loves horses so whenever I see a galloping stallion that's what she gets. My brother-in-law is gay so he gets another kind of stallion.
Neither Alone Nor Lonely
I'm not the kind of person prone to loneliness. When I'm alone I'm never lonely. I open my contacts and spend a few minutes with my family or friends. I especially love to send the kids postcards from all over the world, hoping to whet their curiosity and remind them that although my work takes me away I'm always thinking about them.
